The 2015 RCE Conference of the Americas is a global conference dedicated to spearheading conversation around education for sustainable development. On August 9-12, this conference will bring together leaders from six countries throughout the Americas to discuss their shared goals of impacting and guiding the implementation of future work within the RCE.
Grand Rapids has been invited by the United Nations to host the RCE 2015 Conference of the Americas. Influential thinkers, researchers, authors, academics, and educators from all throughout the Americas will convene in our city to explore what we have to offer to the world of sustainable development.
At the conference participants will be led on excursions to exciting sites such as Frederik Meijer Gardens, Medical Mile, Downtown Market, and our beautiful lakeshore. Informative lectures will be held at downtown locations such as the DeVos Place, KCAD, and Seidman. Between lectures lunches and dinners will be held at scenic sites such as the Public Museum, East Hills, the GRAM, Grid70, and Grand Haven.
Grand Rapids has been voted the most sustainable mid-sized city by US Chamber 2010, rated fifth in the nation in LEED certified buildings, one of the Top 15 Emerging Downtowns by Forbes.com, and named Best Beer City in 2012. With all of these accolades, not to mention the fact that Grand Rapids is only a short drive to one fifth of the world’s surface freshwater, participants in this conference will have a lot to talk about!
